September is Attendance Awareness Month, and as we begin a new school year, we want to highlight one of the simplest—and most powerful—ways we can help our students succeed: being at school every day and on time.
At Owen Marsh, we know that every day matters. Each school day is filled with important learning, classroom routines, conversations, friendships, and experiences that are difficult to recreate when a student is absent.
Regular attendance helps students:
📚 Stay on track academically and build new skills each day.
🧠 Develop strong learning habits and confidence.
🤝 Build relationships with teachers and classmates.
💚 Feel connected to their classroom and school community.
⏰ Develop responsibility and routines that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Even a few missed days can add up quickly. Missing just two days of school each month can result in approximately 20 missed days over the course of a school year. Those missed days mean missed instruction, practice, collaboration, and opportunities to grow.
Of course, we understand that children get sick and that there are times when an absence is necessary. Our goal is not to have students come to school when they are ill. Instead, we ask families to make regular, on-time attendance a priority whenever possible and to schedule appointments and vacations outside of the school day when you can.
Attendance is a partnership between home and school. If your family is experiencing challenges that are making it difficult for your child to attend school regularly or arrive on time, please reach out to us. We want to work with you and help remove barriers whenever we can.
Throughout September, we will be talking with our students about the importance of showing up, being ready to learn, and making every school day count.
Every Day Matters. Every Minute Matters. Every Student Matters.
Thank you for partnering with us to give our students the very best opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
With appreciation,
Mrs. Conaway
Principal
Owen Marsh Elementary School

Reminder: Today is an early dismissal day. Dismissal will be at 2:30
today.
Thank you for your patience as we work through our new dismissal procedures. Our goal is to make car rider pick-up as quick, efficient, and stress-free as possible. We understand that there may be some challenges as we adjust to this new system, and we will continue to make changes as needed to improve the process.
If you prefer to park and walk to the school to pick up your student, we will have a Parent Pick-Up Line on the North side of the building, closest to Avon Drive. A staff member will be outside tomorrow to help direct parents. Please be prepared to provide your student’s name and grade level so we can call your child to the front for dismissal.
We also ask that parents please do not park on Avon Drive during dismissal. Parked vehicles make it difficult for cars to safely enter and exit the area and can create unnecessary congestion.
Again, we truly appreciate your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we work to make dismissal as smooth and efficient as possible for everyone. Thank you for your continued support!
